Who owns Apollo in Australia?2025-05-26T23:24:47+10:00

Apollo is owned by thl (Tourism Holdings Limited) – a travel company originally from NZ that’s a major player in the global camper game. In 2022, thl and Apollo merged to create a campervan super group across Australia, NZ and beyond. 🚌🌏

Here’s how the family looks now:

  • Apollo: The flagship brand, offering a wide range of campers from budget to luxe.
  • Cheapa Campa: Apollo’s budget-friendly sister brand (same vehicles, just older).
  • Hippie Campers: Ultra budget, super basic campers for young travellers or solo backpackers.
  • Maui: Premium motorhome experience (no pets allowed, luxe vibes only).
  • Britz: Mid-range and super popular with families and groups.
  • Mighty Campers: Britz’s budget sibling – think backpacker-friendly with a bit of grit.

💡 TL;DR: If you’re booking Apollo, you’re booking with a big, well-established brand that’s part of a camper family covering every kind of traveller.

Are pets allowed in Apollo vehicles?2025-05-26T23:24:45+10:00

Yep! You can bring your furry mate along for the ride 🐶🐱. Apollo allows dogs and cats in their campers (except for Maui-branded vehicles – those are pet-free zones).

Just a heads up: there’s a $315 pet cleaning fee, and if your pet leaves things messy, extra charges might apply. Keep it clean! 😎

Service animals? They’re totally allowed in all vehicles without any extra fees.

Can I book a one way rental?2025-05-26T23:24:36+10:00

Yep! Apollo is all about road trips that don’t loop back – you can pick up in one city and drop off in another across loads of Aussie locations.

Just a heads up: there’s usually a one-way fee, which starts at $195 for metro locations and can go up to $295 if you’re cruising between more remote spots like Darwin, Broome or Alice Springs.

Some minimum hire periods apply depending on the route – but don’t stress, we’ll keep you in the loop when you book with RatPack. 🙌

What is the policy on off-road driving?2025-05-26T23:24:39+10:00

Apollo’s rule is simple(ish): no full off-roading in 2WD campers. You can take an unsealed road detour to a campsite or tourist spot if it’s well-maintained and under 12km long, but beaches, bush tracks and long dirt roads? Nuh-uh – not allowed. 🚫

If you’re in a 4WD camper, you’ve got way more freedom, but there’s a catch:

  • 🔒 Some areas are restricted and need permission at pickup.
  • Some are totally off-limits (like Fraser Island, the CREB Track, and beaches in general).

Bonus tip: Apollo might void your insurance if you take a 2WD or 4WD where it ain’t meant to go, so it’s defo worth sticking to the approved tracks or chatting with the team before heading into the wild.

Want to hit remote routes? Let us know – we’ll guide you on where’s good and what’s allowed.

Is there a charge for additional drivers?2025-05-26T23:24:33+10:00

Yep – there’s a small daily fee for each extra driver you add to the rental. It’s currently $4 per person, per day, capped at 15 days.

BUT if you book Apollo with the Value Pack, you’ll get extra drivers included for free. So if you’ve got a crew and want to share the drive, it’s defo worth considering that upgrade.

And don’t forget – every driver must meet the licence requirements and be added to the rental agreement at pickup. No sneaky switcheroos!

What’s the bond or security deposit required?2025-05-26T23:24:26+10:00

When you roll with Apollo, the standard bond (liability deposit) depends on the camper you book:

  • 2WD campers: $5,000 – $7,500
  • 4WD campers: $8,000

This is held on your card at pickup. It’s fully refundable if you return the camper damage-free and follow all the rental T&Cs.

Want to reduce your bond to zero? Add on the High Road or Value Pack at booking and you can cruise with no bond hold at all (except for 4WDs – those drop to $500 with cover).

📝 Important: You’ll need a credit card or a Visa/Mastercard debit (no pre-paid cards or cash accepted), and the cardholder must be there at pickup to sign for the bond.

Are kilometres unlimited?2025-05-26T23:24:18+10:00

For 2WD campers, yep – unlimited kilometres are included. That means you can cruise the coast, chase sunsets or loop the outback without stressing about extra charges.

If you’re eyeing up a 4WD adventure, you’ll get 300 km per day included. Need more? You can pre-purchase extra kms or pay for the extra at the end of your trip.

Keep an eye on your route – driving too far off-grid might rack up extra fees or restrictions.

What’s the minimum driver age?2025-05-26T23:24:09+10:00

You’ll need to be at least 21 years old to drive an Apollo camper. All drivers must hold a full driver’s licence – no learner’s or provisional licences allowed.

If your licence isn’t in English, make sure you bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) or an official translation. The IDP needs to be presented alongside your original licence when you pick up the camper.
